Pixels and Paint Collection

This body of work includes remixed photographs of South East Asia in the 1960's. "I have been printing these digital images on archival paper and then I have used acrylics, and drawing materials to emphasize and develop the work. I have been calling them digital monoprints."

"These images of the past are of Singapore and Malaysia in the 1960’s. I lived in Singapore for a few years (1996-1999) and my Dad traveled in Southeast Asia for business at the time these photos were taken. I have only one that my Dad took; most of his photos were lost in a fire. This work is made from photographs (slides) that were given to me by a friend who found them at a garage sale. Someone was cleaning out and discarding old travel photos".

"By rescuing these pictures from extinction, I have found a personally moving way to describe living away from home.”

Gateway and Lantern Paintings

Except from a Review in the San Francisco Chronicle, 2000.

Bryant, was greatly influenced by her time in Singapore. It's a culture where many traditions have continued that were banned in Communist China,'' Bryant said. "Singapore still puts on spectacular events. The children walk through the Chinese gardens with paper lanterns lit from candles within. They have a luminous and fanciful look. There's delight in the light.''

This inner-lit quality has become a primary focus for Bryant's paintings. In many of her works, veils of clouds and vibrant brush strokes shroud her light source. Her perspective is dreamlike, with undefined horizons and objects that defy gravity.
